Tikka is my dream come true from our Trio and Worf litter!
She's done everything I have asked of her and more!
Tikka hit the show ring with a bang as a young puppy in 2008 "stack n" up the show points while simultaneously training in obedience and field work.
Her first weekend in the ring she went Best Of Breed over a Male Special Westminster Kennel Club invite! She easily finished her CHAMPIONSHIP, over large entries of dogs much older than her, with multiple Best of Breed, Best Opposite Sex and Best Puppy in Breed wins.
Tikka finished her Championship by 9 1/2 months old and with a BEST PUPPY IN GROUP win to boot! Tikka went on to win three more BEST PUPPY IN SPORTING GROUP , a BEST PUPPY IN SPECIALTY SHOW win at the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club of Canada British Columbia Regional Specialty Show and topped it all off by winning an ALL BREED BEST PUPPY IN SHOW!
A few weeks before Tikka finished her SHOW CHAMPIONSHIP she earned her JUNIOR HUNTER title in two weekends of tests at just a few days over nine months old!

Tikka completed her first year earning her WORKING CERTIFICATE TEST title as well. Not only is Tikka a dream in the show ring and in the field but she hunts as well! She enjoyed her first season duck hunting immensely! After taking her out with mom, Trio, Tikka caught on within one hunt that the flying things in the sky were ducks and she was going to retrieve them! Her absolute disappointment when we missed our shot became evident all to soon!
In 2009 Tikka earned her WORKING CERTIFICATE INTERMEDIATE and COMPANION DOG OBEDIENCE titles.
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club of Canada DOBIRSTEIN AWARD was presented to Tikka at this time in recognition of her excellence in versatility.
At the 2009 Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club National Specialty in Ontario, Tikka was only one of two dogs who qualified for the Fair Dinkum Toller Award which recognizes excellence achieved by a toller at the National Specialty in the Conformation Ring, Obedience Ring and in the field at a Working Certificate Test. All though not the eventual winner, she lost on points accumulated; to have been one of the two dogs to compete successfully in these three events, in an outstanding field of dogs, was a real achievement for a girl that was not even two years old!
We continued to work in the field easily picking up Tikka's WORKING CERTIFICATE EXCELLENT title.
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club (USA) presented Tikka with the "Evelyn A. Williams Award Of Excellence" at this time. Tikka also earned one qualifying score towards her SENIOR HUNTER title but a torn toe nail put the completion of that into the following test season.
We finished up her SENIOR HUNTER TITLE in 2010
In 2011, Tikka earned her COMPANION DOG EXCELLENT OBEDIENCE title. We continued to play in the Open ring while training for Utility. She qualified in twelve straight Open trials, earning eleven HIGH IN CLASS placements with all her scores in the 190's. To say she is a biddable, trainable and SMART is an understatement. She gives all she has and more!
Tikka placed second TOP OBEDIENCE DOG in total points earned by a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever In Canada for 2011!
IT'S AN OTCH!!
Thrilled to share that Tikka became an OBEDIENCE TRIAL CHAMPION on one weekend in August 2013. Earning her first two UD qualifying scores on the Saturday and the third one, for the title, the next afternoon!
She also was HIGH IN CLASS all three times!
It was a tough, tough venue with dogs dropping like flies because of the conditions. My handler error on the Sunday morning DQ'd her in the Signal Exercise.
Slow down is my advice to handlers in the field many times and it applies to me in the obedience ring as well! However, I really shouldn't complain as this building has been good to me.... she was awarded her first Best Puppy In Group there 5 years ago!
I had taken her in the UD ring twice before and lost her both times on the "scent discrimination" section because I was doing a flying send. Once I changed that I knew it would only be a matter of time for the title but I am completely blown away and proud as can be that she earned it this fast!!
It's a MOTCH for Tikka!
Tikka completed the requirements for her MASTER OBEDIENCE TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIP (MOTCH) in September 2015; which included HIGH IN CLASS from the super competitive Utility B Class, multiple HIC in Open B and HIC Open B, HIC Utility B and HIGH IN TRIAL at the 2015 NSDTRCC National Specialty.
Apparently she is only the 5th female toller to have achieved this title.
While Tikka was trialing for the MOTCH I also had her in the conformation ring to earn her GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP. At some shows we were literally running from the show ring back to the obedience ring for our turn. She had great success in both rings and completed the requirements for the GCH easily and in short time, also in September 2015.
Tikka was the CKC 2015 #2 Obedience Toller... edged out of #1 spot by just two points. :-)
Tikka is the ONLY MASTER OBEDIENCE TRIAL CHAMPION AND GRAND CHAMPION in the breed.... PLUS she has her Senior Hunter, Working Certificate Excellent titles AND she actually HUNTS too!!
I am super proud of all she gives me since we do not trial or train on a regular basis. We have taken the years off that Tikka has had litters so she can whelp the litter and to hunt during the fall and winter!
Her pups, from four litters, are wonderful family companions first and foremost but are also achieving in hunting, Competitive Obedience, Rally, Hunt Tests, Working Certificate Tests, Agility, conformation and are Therapy and Service dogs. Her legacy will live on through them and their offspring as well!
Yes, Tikka is a true versatile toller, doing it all.... but she LIVES for the retrieving of ducks.
She is in her element and at her happiest when out hunting, in the blind, scanning the sky for ducks, waiting for her next opportunity for a retrieve, blasting out of the blind to run down a cripple... those are her favorites!
More pictures of our Hunting Adventures can be seen here. We can be found at least 5 days a week, during the waterfowl season, out hunting and we get in six weeks of pheasant hunting also.
Tikka watches the sky for more ducks before we go home
